Goodman, Thomas - 1845 - Cabarrus County, NC - Wills Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Project Archives by Dan Manship The last will and testament of Thos. Goodman was produced in open court and offered for probate and the execution thereof was proven by the oathe of George Goodman one of the [illegible] thereto which will is in the following words and figures to wit. In the name of God amen Thos. Goodman of the County of Cabarrus and state of North Carolina, am well in body and perfect mind and memory calling into mind and the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die I therefore make and order in this my last will and testament First I will unto my wife Mary as much of my [illegible] property as she [illegible] in [illegible] thereof or sees cause to keep during her widowhood or all if she sees proper My wife Mary is also to have all the notes and money remaining in my possession after my death and have [illegible] all thereof of the said money I also will unto my wife Mary the plantation I now live on it being old [illegible] of land containing ninety acres the [illegible] during her lifetime and after her death the said plantation I will to my son Jacob Goodman's heirs namely Daniel Goodman, Polly, Caroline, Thomas, Leah, Marian, John and Catharine to share and divide equally among the foregoing named heirs. I also except for my son Jacob's widow Nancy to have the use of said plantation during her life time as her home with all the improvements thereon which she the said Nancy Goodman [illegible] remaining in her widowhood and it is my will and desire for the said Nancy Goodman to have the use of the said lands by giving to my wife Mary her yearly support consisting of five bushels of clean wheat, ten baskets of good sound corn, ten pounds of coffee good, ten pounds of good sugar, one hundred weight of good pork and one bushel of salt in my wife Mary's lifetime and if not then my wife Mary shall have a rite to rent the plantation to any person she sees proper to get her support. It is my will and desire for Nancy Goodman widow to have my loom and all what belongs to the said loom after the death of my wife Mary. I also will to the said Nancy my house clock and wind mill and [illegible] one bed and its furniture one walk pot all the above specific articles will be the property of the said named person after the death of my wife Mary and all the balance of loose property shall be sold to the highest bidder after the death of my wife and the amount of [illegible] notes and money shall be equally distributed amongst all my grandchildren. My son-in-law Solomon Misenheimer and his wife Sophia [illegible] received their legacy part of my estate they have received the sum of four hundred and ninety dollars that is their legacy part and [illegible] I also appoint and nominate my friend Moses Foil my executor in this my last will and testament whereof I have hereunto set my hand and offered my seal on this the second day of January in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred forty five and in the [illegible] of us.
