Nelson, Jr., Shreveport, Louisiana Written: February 1795 In the name of God Amen- This, the third day of February in the year of our Lord, one thousand, seven hundred and ninety five. I James Wallace of Cabarras County, in the state of N. C. Being in a weak and declining state of body, but blest of God with a sound mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all men to die, I do make this my last will and testament in the manner and form following, Vis- I recommend my soul to Almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth, to be buried in a decent manner at the discretion of my executors, and as touching such wordly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me. In this life, I bequeath and dispose of the same in the following manner. I promise all my just debts and funeral charges I allow to be fully paid and discharged. Then, to my oldest son Joseph Wallace I give and bequeath 300 acres of land situated on Duck River to be divided by him in lots, being a part of 800 acres lying near said river, to him and his heirs and assignees forever– Also my black velvet breeches. To his son James Wallace I give my silver shoe buckles. Then to my daughter Rachael Harris I give and bequeath, one feather bed, and its furniture. Then to my daughter Mary Flenniken I give and bequeath one negro girl named Tab, to her heirs and assignees forever; also 250 acres of land on Duck River of the aforesaid tract to her heirs and assignees forever more; also the same Tabs child named Dinah. Then to my son John Wallace, I give and bequeath to him, his heirs and assignees forever all the plantation he dwells on; also 250 acres of the aforesaid tract of land on Duck River; also one negro boy named Rowdon, to him and his heirs and assignees forever; also one half of my wearing apparel excepting what is above mentioned. Item–to my daughter Sarah Jane, I give and bequeath to her and her assignees forever, one negro girl named “Dark” and one feather bed with its furniture. Item– To my son William Wallace I give and bequeath all the plantation which I now live on with all the rights and privileges thereof, to him and his heirs and assignees forever; also one half of my wearing apparel remaining after dividing as aforesaid to Joseph and John Wallace. Item– To my daughter Jean Meek, I give and bequeath one negro wench named Pogg also another wench named Jemima, each of them to her heirs and assignees forever, she having the said Pogg now in possession; also one of my largest pewter basins. Item– To my daughter Elizabeth Wallace, I give and bequeath one negro girl named Zylph; to her heirs and assignees forever more; also one bay horse named Red Man with a saddle and bridle; also her choice of two cows; also the largest of my pots except one– my tea pot; also two feather beds with their furniture and also all of my pewter beside the basin above mentioned, also one other negro girl named Rose to her and her heirs and assignees forever more. The remainder of my property besides what has been above mentioned I allow to be sold at Vendue and the money there arising to be collected. After paying of all my debts, and the funeral charges, as aforesaid the remainder thereof I allow to be equally divided amongst four of my children– John, Sarah, Jean and Elizabeth, and I do hereby ordain, constitute, and appoint my sons John Wallace and Joseph Wallace to be my sole executors of this my last will and testament, to see that all may be performed according to the true intent and meaning thereof, and so hereby I revoke and disannul all my former wills and testaments and bequeathing whatsoever– pronouncing and declaring this and none other to be my last will and testament to the facts within mentioned. Signed, sealed, pronounced and declared by the said James Wallace to be his last will and testament to that above mentioned– In the presence of us— L.
