Hence this house has been an inhabited dwelling for 86 years. Inside of its walls there have been 27 births and on one ever yet died within it. There is the first brick house that was ever built in what is now Caldwell county, it being at that time a part of Burke. The water supply is obtained from a well 80 feet deep. The house is surrounded by tall cedars; some of which are 32 inches in diameter, none of which has ever been struck by lightning, notwithstanding it is on a high place.
