Collett Leventhorpe, at the Chapel of Rest, Yadkin Valley, N.C., fell into our hands. It contains in full the sermon delivered by Rev. Jas. A. Wetson, rector of the parish. We had heard the sermon spoken of as a gem of beauty, and so it is. Among The News' readers are hundreds who followed Gen. Leventhorpe and they will read the tribute to his life and character with interest. He was a general all could safely follow; a Christian in whose footsteps it would be safe to tread. Gen. Leventhorpe was born at Exmouth, Devonshire, England, and was Captain in the Royal British Army. He came to the United States in 1843 and in 1849 married Louisa, second daughter of Gen. Edmund Bryan, of Rutherfordton, NC, who survives him. He entered the war as Colonel of the 34th Regiment, NC State Troops and was afterwards Colonel of the 11th, formerly the 1st North Carolina (Bethel) Regiment. He was promoted to Brigadier-General. General Leventhorpe died on December 1, 1889.
