An article about Mrs. Store ran in the News-Topic on February 27, because she was Caldwell County’s oldest recorded living citizen at that time. Mrs. Storie, who attributed her long life to a “a lifetime of hard, backbreaking work”, had a vivid memory, and could recall many dates and important events in her life. Her birthday party in January was a special one because she received messages from President Jimmy Carter, Governor James B. Hunt Jr., Congressman Jim Broyhill and many others. She wore an apron everyday, read newspapers and magazines to keep informed and enjoyed a blend of snuff and chewing tobacco. Mrs. Storie livied in at Snyder’s Rest home for many years before being transferred to a Blowing rock Nursing Home this past spring. Mrs. Storie was born Jan 11, 1880 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Warren and Mary Bryant Hatton. He husband, Joshua Storie, died in 1960. Mrs. Storie is survived by a son, Odell Storie of Lenoir, five daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Mae) Robbins, Mrs. Vesta Bolick, and Mrs. Lonnie Barlow, all of Lenoir. Mrs. Carl (Virgie) Giles of Boone, and Mrs. Henry (Edna) Rich of Hudson; 32 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son and a daughter. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, where she was a member. Officiating will be the Rev. Gurney Robbins and the Rev. J. H. Crisp. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at Greer-McPhaul Funeral Home tonight from 7-0.
