He enlisted at Beaufort in 1781 in Capt. William Dennis' Company the 1st Regt. of the Continental Line commanded by Col. Lighton. He served one year as a Private. Martin was enrolled for pension on 17 Sept. 1818. He was 75. He was a native of Beaufort, Carteret. At the time of his pension application he gave his occupation as farmer. He gave the names and ages of his family: Rachel, 75, his wife; William, 13, a grandchild; Jacob, 12, a grandchild and David, 9, a grandchild. He was born in 1745 and died on 30 Sept. 1828.
