(pmp) Will of ABRAHAM MITCHELL written 3 Apr. 1778; probated in Carteret County, NC In the name of God Amen. I ABRAHAM MITCHELL of Carteret County being in a week state of health but of sound mind and memory but calling to mind that it is appointed once for all men to die do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following--------------------? First of all I resign my sole to God who gave it and commit my body to the earth of which it was made First to be buried in a Christian like maner. And as for those wordly goods which it hath been pleased God to bestow on me I leave in maner and form as followeth---------------------? Item: I lend to my wife NELLEY MITCHELL my negro man TOM with the household furniture, plantation tools with the stock of cattle, horses and hogs except one year old horse--------------------Also I give and bequeath to my wife Forty pounds in money---------------My will and desire is that my wife NELLEY should have peaceable possession of the goods and chattles hencfort for the space of fourteen years and at the experation of the fourteen my negro man to be hired out anuly and the money arising from the hire to go to the support of my children ------------My will is that when each of my boy children when they __________? to the age of fourteen years should be bound out to trade. And in consideration of my wife NELLEY giving my children reasonable good education, suffitient the goods and chattles above lent to be her own property to her and her heirs for ever if not my will is that so much of my estate should be sold as will be suffitient to answer the same purpose. Also please my working tools to be sold and ____? young horse. The horse when he gets three years _______? and the money there of to go to the support of my children.
