It was not signed, witnessed, probated, or recorded. It was transcribed by Frances Henderson on May 10, 1999 from a copy received from another family researcher, Sydney Davis. Attempt was made to include spelling, capitalization, and punctuation (or lack thereof) as in the original. It appears to be legitimate. In the Name of God Amen - the fifteenth day of January 1768 I John Sanders of the County of Carteret in the Province of North Carolina Being Sick and weak in Body but of Perfect Mind and Memmory thanks be to god ---- Therefore Calling to mind the Mortality of my Body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say Principaly and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it and my Body to be Buried in a Christian manner at the Discertion of my Executors ----- I give and Dispose of the Same in the following Manner ------ Item I give to my Wife Ruth all my Estate her lifetime and at her Disseas as follows ----- Item I give and bequeath to my Son James Sanders my land and all [Privelege?] thereunto blonging. Item I give to my daughter Prudance Sanders three Cowes and Calves and one fether bed and furnerture Item I give to my daughter Elizebth Sanders three Cowes and Calves and one fether bed and furnerture. Item I give to my Daughters Prudance and Elizebth all my puter (?) [pewter] Item I give all the Remandar part of my Estate to be Ekuely Devided amoungst all my ChilDren-- Item I leave my wife Excutrix with my Son John Sanders Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I Do here by Disalow all former Will or Testaments by Me in any wayes before Named Confirming this and no other to be my last Will Witness Where of I have hereunto Set My hand and Seal the Day and year above Written Signed Seald in the presents of Here it ends with no signature, no probate date, no witnesses. There is some tiny writing at the bottom "Proved in Open." but that's all. On the outside it says "Sanders Will 1768 Not signed or probated".
