Hart Social Circle Georgia Dear Madam: Reference is made to your request for information relative to Revolutionary War soldier Robert King. The data which follow were taken from papers on file in the pension claim R.5966 based on the military service of the only Robert King of South Carolina that is found in the Revolutionary War records of this office. The date and place of birth of Robert King and the names of his parents are not shown. Robert King applied for pension January 19, 1846 at which time he was living in Greenville District, South Carolina, and he then stated that he was eighty eight years of age. He alleged that he enlisted in Caswell County, North Carolina in 1777 and served under Captains F. Lawson and Lee and Majors Bailey and Butler at various times, amounting to four years in all, during which time he was engaged in the battles of Camden, Lindley's Mill and Eutaw Springs. On November 10, 1846 he stated that he was ninety years of age and that when he lived in Caswell County, North Carolina, with his mother, her house was consumed by fire and his discharge was burned and that he afterwards moved to Greenville District, South Carolina. His claim was not allowed as he failed to furnish proof of service in accordance with the requirement of the pension law under which he applied.
