This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Barbara Walker Good BWGood@aol.com ==================================================================== Caswell County, NC Book I-I page 384 Will of Moses Bradsher 1820 In the name of God Amen, I Moses Bradsher Senr. being of sound mind & disposing memory do make, publish and declare this my last will & testament, hereby revoking all others by me at any time heretofore made, To wit: In the first place I give to my Beloved Wife Martha Bradsher, one hundred dollars annually during her natural life, which said sum I direct my Executors to pay to my said wife Martha, out of my Estate, each and every year so long as she may live; also one feather bed, bedstead and furniture, one set of Silver Table & teaspoons, one mare called Sealy with a saddle & bridle, and one pine chest; It is further my will that my aforesaid wife Martha, shall, during her life, have a young Negro Woman, named Amelia, but this Negro & her increase, if any, to return to my estate after the death of my wife - Item: to my son Jefse Bradsher, my son John Bradsher, my son Richard I Bradsher, & my son Moses Bradsher, I give to each of them a horse, at the price of sixty-five dollars; Item: to my son James O. Bradsher, I give the mare which he now has in pofsefsion; Item: to my Daughter Patsy B. Bradsher and to my Daughter Franky Bradsher, to each of them I give one choice cow & calf and one feather bed, bedstead & furniture: My will and desire is that as soon after my death as this will shall be legally proven, & the situation of my crop on hand will admit of a sale, that all my household furniture, except such as is herein before disposed of, and all my stock of cows, except such as are hereinbefore disposed of, and all my stock of every kind, and all my crop of Tobacco, & corn, with my small game of every kind, plantation, tools & kitchen utensils; that remains on hand at my death, shall be sold on a credit of twelve months, and the amount thereof divided as herein after directed. I hereby request my Executors herein after named, to collect all the money that is or may be due to me after my death, as soon as pofsible, and the amount thereof, together with the money arising from the amount of sales of the stock, crop & C as above directed, to be equally divided between my fourteen children, sons and daughters: My will and desire is, that all my lands should be rented out every year during the life of my wife Martha, in the usual way of renting lands belonging deceast persons estates, and further I will that all my Negroes, except the one reserved for the use of my wife, may be hired out every year so long as my wife shall live, in the usual way of hiring Negroes of deceast persons estate and the money arising from the rent of the lands, and hire of the Negroes to be collected when due, and equally divided between my fourteen children, sons and daughters; - After the death of my wife Martha, I will that all my lands be equally divided between my seven sons, to wit: Abner Bradsher, Jefse Bradsher, John Bradsher, James O. Bradsher, Richard I Bradsher, Vincent Bradsher, and Moses Bradsher. I further will that if either of my above named sons should die without lawful heir begoten of their body then and in that case, their part of the land is to be equally divided between my surviving sons; - I further will that after the death of my wife Martha, the Negro Woman Amelia, with her increase if any, shall return to my estate, and that seven of the most valuable female Negroes belonging to my estate shall be valued and equally divided between my seven daughters, that is, my daughter Elizabeth Walton, my daughter Nancy Lea, my daughter Polly Peterson, my daughter Unicy Mutrey, my daughter Patsy B. Bradsher, my daughter Niamy Nelson, and my daughter Franky Bradsher; - I will that if either of my above named daughters should die without lawful heir begoten of their body then & in that case their part of the seven Negroes, to be valued as aforesaid, is to be equally divided between my surviving daughters; and this I do to make them equal with my sons. I further will that after the valuation * division of the seven Negroes as above directed, then the whole of my Negroes which remains shall be equally divided between my fourteen children sons and daughters; that is to say, To my son Abner Bradsher, one fourteenth part, to my son Jefse Bradsher, one fourteenth part, to my son John Bradsher, one fourteenth part, my son James O. Bradsher, one fourteenth part, my son Richard I Bradsher one fourteenth part, my son Vincen Bradsher, one fourteenth part, my son Moses Bradsher one fourteenth part, to my daughter Elizabeth Walton, one fourteenth part, my daughter Nancy Lea, one fourteenth part, my daughter Polly Peterson, one fourteenth part, my daughter Unicey Mutrey, one fourteenth part, my daughter Patsy B Bradsher, one fourteenth part, my daughter Niamy Nelson, one fourteenth part, my daughter Franky Bradsher, one fourteenth part. - I hereby constitute, make & appoint my two sons Abner Bradsher, & John Bradsher, executors of this my last will and testament, in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this thirtieth day of August 1820.
