Will Bk A, P. 140) Written: August 16, 1778 Recorded: June 1781 Caswell Co., North Carolina, County Wills 1771 - 1927 Will of JOHN JOHNSON (JOHNSTON); Will Book A, p. 140 In the name of God Amen. I John Johnson of ths County of Caswell and State of North Carolina being weak of body but of sound judgment and memory blessed be God and calling to mind m Mortality and that it appointed for all men once to Die, do this Sixteenth Day of August in the year one thousand seven hundred & seventy eight make & ordain my last will and testament in the manner and form following. That is to say, Principally and first of al I do commit & recommend my sole at Death, to God who gave it to me and my body to be deasantly Buried in a Christian Manner, in hopes of a Glorious Resurrection the Merits of my saviour Jesus Christ , and as to my worldly Estate I do Dispose of as Follows - - - To my well beloved son Daniel Johnson I do give & bequeath Five shillings North Carolina currency & no more To my well beloved Daughter Isbel, wife of James Walker I give & Bequeath Twenty Pounds Currency and no more. To my well beloved Daughter Richel now wife of Joseph Walker I give and bequeath Ten pound currency and no more. To my well beloved son William Johnson I give and bequeath a smiths anvil, peak, iron froe, and other Articles now in his possession also Ten pound currency & no more. To my Daughter Jane wife of James Christy I give and Bequeath Twenty Pounds and no more. To my well beloved wife Mary I give and bequeath m bay mare and her choice of a cow and calf out of my stock, her saddle bridle etc. & a Reasonable Maintenance off of my Land, her waring Clothes a bed and furniture and house Plenishing. N: B her riding saddle and waring clothes to be her and her Disposal and no more - To my well beloved son James Johnson I will and Bequeath the Tract or Parcel of Land and Plantation where I now live containing and being by estimation two hundred and two acres be the same more or less to him and his Heirs forever also all my Personal Estate only as before Excepted.
