All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Floyd Poteet flash56@sbcglobal.net January 10, 2008, 2:53 pm Source: Nc Archives & History Written: 1788 State Archives' Call No. CR.014.801.1 I John Poteet of Caswell County in the State of North Carrolina being in a Low State of health but in Perfect memory of mind Do make ordain and Constitute this to be my Last will and testament in manner of and form as following that is to say After my Decease my Just Debts Being all paid that then I give to my wife Ann Poteet my Plantation and all my Land and Every thing that I own in the world all and Every thing to her During her life or widowhood and what is Remaining at my wifes Death or marriage I give and Dispose of as follows I also give to my Daughter Elizebeth Poteet one Negro girl named Diner and her increase for Ever to my Daughter Elizebeth Poteet and to her and her heirs in Blood for Ever and no more I also give to my two sons William Poteet and Miles Poteet Each of them a horse colt and at my wife Ann Poteets Death or marriage I give to my two Sons William Poteet and Miles Poteet all my Land that I own to be Eaquily Devided between them Both to them and their heirs for Ever and no more I also give to my son James Poteet one Negro Boy Named Adam to him and his heirs for Ever and no more I now Give to my son Thomasmiles Poteet one Negro Boy Named Ned to him and his heirs for Ever and no more I also give to my Son John Poteet one Negro girl Named Milley and her increase to him and his heirs for Ever and no more At at my wifes Death or marriage I also give to my son Richard Poteet five pounds and one Shilling Sterling and no more And at my wifes Death or marriage I also give to my Daughter Suckey Marten five pounds and one Shilling Sterling and no more I give to my Son Thomas Poteet one Shilling Sterling and no more I also give to my Daughter Hannah Hail one Shilling Sterling and no more I give to my Daughter Mary Vaun one Shilling Sterling and no more And then at my wifes Death or marriage that then if there is any thing Remaining of my moveble afects and one Negro Named Morean shall be Equily Divided between six of my Children Elizebeth Poteet William Poteet Miles Poteet James Poteet Thomasmiles Poteet and John Poteet only the Negro woman Named Morean to be Divided between William Poteet and Miles Poteet and not any of them to have any part of her but them two William and Miles Poteet I also give to my two Gran Children Son and Daughter of my Son John Poteet Deceased I give to each of them one Shilling Sterling and no more the two childrens names is John Poteet and Ruth Poteet In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and affixed my Seal this 3d Day of January 1786 John (his X mark Poteet) {Seal} Signed Sealed and Delivered in the presents of us Ja'b Miles Senr (Jurat) Richard Cross (Jurat) Caswell County July Court 1788 The Execution of this will was duly proved in open Court by the Oaths of Jacob Miles and Richard Cross on motion ordered to be recorded Teste A.E.
