This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Matthew Van Hook vanhook@swconnect.net ==================================================================== This will was proved January, 1785 in Caswell County Court for David Sr. (Caswell Co., Wills, book b, p. 66, mf. 96) In the name of God Amen, I, David VanHook of the State of N.C. and the County of Caswell make this my last will and Testament, I resign my soul to God its creator, as a Being infinitely good in hope of future happiness. As to my body my Desire is it may be buried in a gentle Christian like manner, such is the strict Injunction, I lay on my Executors whose name is as follows to wit: I hereby nominate and appoint my beloved spouse Lucy VanHook, Jacob VanHook, and Kendall VanHook, my lawful sons my Executors of this my last Will and Testament, the survivor or survivors of this my last Will and Testament. I leave my beloved spouse Lucy VanHook all possession of my Estate both personal and real during her widowhood and afterwards to be disposed in the following manner to Wit: That is to my son Jacob, I leave two tracts of land, one going by the name of Poplar Spring Tract, one of which there is 50 acres that join the tract whereon I now live and the other tract that joins the same and joining Burker and Rose. Item, I give to my son Kendall VanHook one tract of land, goes by the name Burker Tract and to be valued and if falls short of Jacobs Tract value it is to be made up in other things that value. Item, I give to my son David VanHook one Tract of land lying on the waters of South Hyco on McMinneways Branch and to be valued and if it falls short of his two brothers it is to be made good and equal to theirs. Item, I give to my son Robert VanHook the tract of land whereon I live and 50 acres that comes off of Jacobs tract and it is to be valued also and made equal to with the rest of his brothers in value. Item, I give to my daughter Sarah VanHook, 1 negro girl named Timour, 1 good horse, bridle and saddle at the least value 15 pounds also a feather bed and furniture. As to the negros increase, stock and household furniture and plantation tools to be equally divided amongst the four boys, and if any of the above named children should die before marriage or arrive to lawful age that their Estate shall be equally divided among those of my children that shall be living.
