Will was written 2 July 1853, codicil was written 22 July 1853, and both were probated January 1854. Transcription begins: January Court 1854 ~ Will of William Walker In the name of God, Amen. I, William Walker of Caswell County and State of North Carolina being of Sound Mind and disposing memory, Do make ordain and Constitute this my last will and testament. After my funeral expenses shall have been defrayed and all my just debts paid, I will and wish my beloved Son David Walker to have all the Tools and fixtures attached to my shops. I will and wish my beloved Daughter Margaret Knighten to have all my household and kitchen furniture. To my other Children James, Samuel, Jane Ruarke and Nancey Cobb, I will one dollar To Each. The remainder of my property Consisting of land, bonds, accounts &c I will and wish to be Equally divided [sic] my son David and my daughter Margaret Knighten. It is also my will that my affectionate Grandson James Knighten be and act as Executor to this my last will in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 2nd day of July 1853. Transcription of codicil: I, William Walker, wish this addition to be made to this my last will (Viz) that all the property which I have in this will given to my son, David Walker, it is my wish that he David Walker have no Control or management of said property because of his habits of Dissipation but I do wish that his family have the full benefit of the same. To affect [sic] which purpose I do here will that my Grandson James Knighten have the Control of said property as Guardian for my Son David and family's benefit and for none other.
