CATAWBA COUNTY, NC - CEMETERIES - St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery (partial) St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Missouri Synod Conover, Catawba County, North Carolina This cemetery walked and recorded on 15 Nov 1987 by Pattie Hooker Frazier. NOTE: THIS IS ONLY A PARTIAL READING OF THIS CEMETERY. Pattie's tombstone notes and comments transcribed by her daughter Suzzette Greth Yandle, 09 March 2004. Suzzette's notes: My Mother loved to ride and go places with me, never complaining of the hours and hours spent sitting in the car to get to our location of interest. Even though she was an avid reader, she did not like doing family research from the book stacks nor reading microfilm. She did however delight in helping me with making photocopies of the many pages that I had selected from various books and files in the libraries and the courthouses that we visited together. She was also a believer in "doing good" and "lending a hand". My Mother liked to go to the cemeteries with me and many times would hold up broken tombstones for me to photograph. When we went to record a cemetery, we would tidy-up the area we were visiting. We always left it in better shape than when we found it. Most of the time Mother stayed with me as we walked the cemetery. But this day at St. John's she did her own thing and went in her own direction as if she were being lead to this tombstone and then onto another one predetermined for her to record the information etched in stone. She is no longer here with us, but continues to guide me in constructive ways. The note she made that afternoon prior to her writing down her findings lets me know she wished to share that information with others. The following is her note and the recording she made that day. To make research easier, I have placed a number at the beginning of each name. That number corresponds to the number in the full name index. "This afternoon, Sunday, November 15, 1987, I spent with my daughter Suzzette Greth and her husband Steven B. Yandle visiting the Church cemetery at St John's Lutheran Church, Rt. 3, Conover, NC in Catawba County. The following information copied at random from the monuments. Perhaps they pertain to family history. The Church and cemetery set on a rise surrounded by mountains in the distance, 70 degrees this afternoon. The red oaks have the last of their leaves for this year. A gentle breeze stirs and floats a few of the leaves to earth. Across the way we can see trucks and cars on the inter-state highway (I-40 & Hwy 16). Carolina blue sky - only the contrails of a jet to break up the blue. It was a good, peaceful afternoon. Join us in the history past." Pattie Hooker Frazier Index to tombstones at St. John's Lutheran Church in Conover, NC that were read and recorded by Pattie Frazier Greth. The number in this index corresponds to the number in front of the name on the tombstone information in the following account. ********** ARUNDT, Rev.
