You don’t know how glad I was to hear from you. I don’t think I ever was any glader to hear from any one in my life their [ ] from you. I would have written sooner but this little piece of paper was all that I had it was misplaced & couldn’t find it until this evening so when I found it I sat right down. Well we are all well & healthy. I hope this will find you [ ]. I was surprised to hear of you having another fine son I thought you was done not going to have no more. Well thank the good one I am still clear of any [Zel?]. I don’t know whether I am done or not but hope so. Tell Lock I was sorry to hear of his bad misfortune how did he ever get his teeth knocked out he must have them just in now. [ ] I am done rocking my boy is it great big fellow he don’t let me nurse him any. He is always out. I would love to see you all one more time Edmon speaks of bringing me [ ] theare this fall [ ] children not [ ] try to live right . Tell William Howard as soon as I get some paper I will answer his letter. I got it about the same time I did yours. Well An’ I have had two messes of peas & two meses of Irish potatoes [ ] we have got our corn all ready to plant and some planted our cotton all harrowed over & about half choped out if nothing happens. Next week we will finish chopping it all over then and good rain & it will grow. Tell John he ought to come down [ ] it fishing [ ] have lots of fish we had in it hot line caught lots of the biggest kind. I just cleaned three nice ones 1 cut 1 pike 1 trout. Ed don’t work mutch hisself he is farming runs the flat 9 [batter] he marks some money every day some days more and some less. We have a black boy living with us this is three years he has stayed with. [ ] what hirls is that having baby with me dadys write & tell me is Ida to it or not give my love to albas & John has she got another held or has her baby turned to it [ ] do tell me at [ ] it girl when I saw it give my love to all my bros and sisters till then all I write [ ] S E Proctor Additional Comments: Letter found in papers of John Alexander Little, and submitted courtesy of Elsie L.
