Reinhardt of Lincoln County in said State, in the sum of Thirty Eight Dollars, for which they hold my note to be due on the 1 day of Nov A.D. 1884 and to secure the payment of the same I do hereby convey to them these articles of Personal Property to-wit: All crops raised or planted by me in 1884. But On This Special Trust: That if I fail to pay said debt and interest on or before 1 day of Nov A.D. 1884, then they may sell said property, or so much thereof as may be necessary by Public Auction For Cash, first giving twenty days notice at three public places, and apply the proceeds of such sale to the discharge of said debt and interest on the same, and pay any surplus to (blank). Allison & Addison, Fourteen and 40/100 Dollars, with eight per cent interest after maturity, without defalcation, for value received. Homestead and all other exemptions waived as to this debt. Allison & Addison, of the City of Richmond, State of Virginia, in the sum of Fourteen and 40/100 Dollars, the same being for the following articles furnished to me by them to enable me to make and harvest my crops this year-to wit: 4 Bags [?] Brown Ground for which they hold my note, to be due on the 1st day Sept 1887; and to secure the payment of the same I do hereby convey to them these articles of Personal Property-to wit: My entire crop of Cotton ((blank) acres); my entire crop of Tobacco ((blank) acres); my entire crop of Corn ((blank) acres); my entire crop of Wheat ((blank) acres), which I raise and have grown this year on my farm of (blank) acrfes, adjoining the lands of (blank) and others, in (blank) Township, (blank) Postoffice, together with other personal property as follows: (blank) This is the only lien or claim of any kind on my above-named crops. But on this special trust, that if I fail to pay said debt on or before the 1st day Sept 1887, then they may seize and sell said property, or so much thereof as may be necessary, by public auction, for cash, first giving twenty days’ notice, at three public places, and apply the proceeds of such sale to the discharge of said debt and interest on the same, together with all costs, fees, and charges of collection, and pay any surplus to me. Given under my hand and seal, this 27th day of April, A.D., 1887 (Signed) J A Little {Seal} Witness: (Signed) C A Reid Item 5 State of North Carolina Catawba County Catawba NC Mar 22 1880 I, John Little, have this day bought and received of Walton, Whann & Co., through their agent, G. U. Long & Co. Eight Sacks, ((blank) tons,) of Plow Brand Bone Super Phosphate, for which I promise and agree to pay and deliver to them, or their authorized agent or legal representative, on or before the 1st day of November, 1880, at Catawba N.C. Fifty four Dollars, payable in Middling Cotton from the first picking at 15 cents per pound, or in money, and after maturity in money only. And it is further agreed, and fully understood, that this is and shall be a Special Lien upon my entire crop of Cotton and Corn to be made during the year 1880, as provided by an Act of the Legislature of N.C. of 1866-’67, and as amended 1872-’73, to secure advances for agricultural purposes. And I further agree to give the said Walton, Whann & Co. legal control of said crop, and waiving all right of Homestead Exemptions, with power to transfer this Lien. The conditions of this Lien are such that if I John Little shall deliver the Cotton or money as above agreed, then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and effect with interest at 8 per cent, after maturity, and all cost of collection.
