CATAWBA COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - David “Brown” Buchanan, 15 Jun 2002 ----¤¤¤---- DAVID BROWN BUCHANAN NEWTON – David “Brown” Buchanan, 76, died Saturday, June 15, 2002 at his home. A native of Mitchell County, he was the son of the late William David and Minnie Chandler Buchanan. He was owner/operator of Buchanan’s Grocery in Newton, and a member of Startown First Baptist, were he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Dee-Dee McGee and Anita Buchanan. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Howell Buchanan; three daughters, Jeanette “Flossie” Richardson of Granite Falls, Frances Robinson of Newton, and Mary-Lou Houser of Thomasville; two sons, Dale Buchanan of Newton, and Steve Buchanan of Hickory; a sister, Annie-Maw McKinney of Bakersville; two brothers, Glenn and Ray Buchanan, both of Bakersville; 10 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Startown First Baptist Church. Rev. Dean Hart officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
