CHARLES HARRIS, a highly respectable citizen of Catawba County, came to his death on Monday night, the 19th inst., under most distressing circumstances. It appears that he left home for the purpose of going to Concord, but before proceeding directly for that point, he had occasion to visit a neighbor's house, and in attempting to do so, he lost his way in the woods. On arriving at a small branch, he stepped upon the ice which yielded under his weight and plunged him into the water. His horse, in the meantime, had run off and left him alone. After he had gotten out of the water, being throughly chilled and benumbed with cold, and his clothes frozen, he dragged himself to the brow of the hill, where he fell and perished in the snow.
