Dale had fought diabetes the last years of his life. He was the son of Cloyd L. Propst and Bonnie Fry Propst. Dale was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to spend time fishing out on Lake Hickory. Dale was a charter member of the Carolina Moonlighters and served as the conductor of the group for numerous years. His barbershop quartet “The Old and the Reckless” was one of Dale’s favorite pastimes. He and his wife were former owners of Propst Greenhouses & Bethlehem Greenhouse in Bethlehem. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, June Carolyn; and brother, David Brent. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dolores Huffman Propst; a son, Jimmy Propst and his wife Sandy; daughters, Tammy Shook and her husband Scott, Cyndee Brown and her husband Rex, and Kristy Propst. He was especially proud of his eight grandchildren. They include Christopher and Angel Brown, Megan and Lauren Shook, and Kayla and Mandy Propst. Other family members include his brother Ron Propst and his wife Tamara of Winston-Salem; sisters, Susie Punch and her husband Dee of Hickory, and Denise McCormick and her husband Rick of West Minster, South Carolina. In-laws include Charlie and Annette Huffman of Bethlehem, and Dorinda and Mack Maclean of Hickory. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 15, 2010, at 3 pm at Miller’s Lutheran Church where Dale was a member and sang in the chancel choir. The Reverend Robert Alle will officiate. The family will receive family and friends before the service starting at 1 pm. Memorials may be given to Hickory’s Palliative Care Center & Hospice at 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658 or Miller’s Lutheran Church at 2280 12th Ave. N.E., Hickory, NC 28601. The family is so grateful to the many friends and family who visited Dale in the last years of his life. We are especially thankful to Fresenius Medical Care of Hickory at 1899 Tate Blvd SE, Hickory and the loving staff at Palliative Care Center & Hospice. A big thank you to the Carolina Moonlighters, Miller’s Lutheran Choir, and the St. Alban’s Episcopal Choir for their gift of music to Dale during the last days of his life.
