Abraham Rencher Family Bible

Front page: The HOLY BIBLE containing the OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS
translated out of The original tongues; and with the former translations
diligently compared and revised.  New Your, American Bible Society
instituted in the MDCCAVL.  1850

Written on this page in a shaky had and with a leaky pen, starting at
the top and interspersed in the Title Page:

Abraham Rencher, son of John Grant Rencher Esq. And Ann, his wife, was
born on the 16th day of August 1798 in the county of Wake, North
Carolina and (unreadable…. Wr mas…)

SECOND PAGE:
(different handwriting) 
Abraham Rencher Esq. Was married to Louisa Mary Jones, Youngest daughter
of Col. Edward Jones on the 29th day of September, A. D. 1836.

THIRD PAGE:
Mary Jones Rencher, daughter of Abraham Rencher and Louisa, his wife,
was born of the 24th day of February, A. D. 1838

John Grant Rencher, son of A. Rencher and Louisa, his wife, was born on
the 1st day of August A. D. 1840 at 1O'clock A.M.

William Conway Rencher, son of Abraham Rencher and Louisa his wife was
born of the 29th day of July 1842 in the City of Washington, about sun
rise.

Sarah Douglas Rencher, Daughter of Ab. Rencher and Louisa his wife was
born in the city of Lisbon on the 19th day of October A. D. 1844 at 8
O'clock in the morning

FOURTH PAGE
Mary Louisa Rencher, daughter of Abraham Rencher and Louisa his wife was
born at Antra (?) in Portugal on the 20th day of August A. D. 1846 at 10
O'clock in the evening

Charlotte Geneva Rencher, daughter of Ab. Rencher and Louisa his wife
was born at Geneva in Switzerland on the 1st  day of August A. D. 1848
at 1 O'clock in the morning

Edward Rencher, son of Ab. Rencher and Louisa, his wife, was born at
Pittsborough on the 28th day of March 1850 at about 6 O'clock in the
evening.

Mary Louisa Anderson, Daughter of Sarah Douglas Rencher and Allen
(Latham?) Anderson, born at Eddyville (?) Ky, May 22, 1870


Representative from North Carolina; born near Raleigh, Wake County,
N.C., August 12, 1798; tutored at home and attended the common schools
and Pittsboro (N.C.) Academy; was graduated from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1822; studied law; was admitted to the bar in
1825 and commenced practice in Pittsboro, Chatham County, N.C.; elected
as a Democrat to the Twenty-first and to the four succeeding Congresses
(March 4, 1829-March 3, 1839); declined to be a candidate for
renomination in 1838; elected to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4,
1841-March 3, 1843); declined to be candidate for renomination in 1842
on account of ill health; Minister to Portugal 1843-1847; presidential
elector on the Democratic ticket of Pierce and :King in 1852; declined
the portfolio of Secretary of the Navy under President Buchanan;
appointed Governor of New Mexico by President Buchanan and served from
1857 to 1861; capitalist and agriculturist; retired to his home in
Pittsboro, N.C.; died in Chapel Hill, N.C., on July 6, 1883; interment
in St. Bartholomew's Protestant Episcopal Churchyard, Pittsboro, N.C.
