In Nov. 1790 the court stated, " William PETTYSALL appointed overseer of the road laid off by said PETTYSALL , leading by his plantation, as farr as the county line and the following hands work under him, to wit, Archibald BROWN'S hands, Pleasant WICKER, Burrly HESTER and Henry COLLIER, William JOHNSON." Then on 14 Aug 1792, the court ordered, "Andrew BROWN appointed overseer of the road the beginning year in the room of William JOHNSON {Johnson" marked out) PETTYSALL on the New Road by PITTYSALLS to Moore County line and the hands who worked under PITTYSALL work under him." These two entries of the Chatham County Court clearly places Archibald BROWN and his son Andrew BROWN on Lick Creek.
