Samuel Temples to Henry Cook-dated 2 March 1773 This indenture made this 2nd day of March in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and seventy three between Samuel Temples of the one part and Henry Cook of the other part witnesseth that the said Samuel Temples for and in consideration for the sum of one hundred and sixty pounds lawful currency of the province of North Carolina to him in hand paid by the said Henry Cook the receipt whereof the said Samuel Temples doth hereby confer and acknowledge and for other good causes him to moving the said Samuel Temples hath granted bargained and sold aliened enforced released and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell aliened enforce release and confirm unto the said Henry Cook his heirs and assigns forever and all that tenement of land containing four hundred acres more or less situate lying and being in Chatham County on Dry Creek the waters of Haw River beginning at a black oak thence running South 63 p. chains crossing Dry Creek to a red oak thence East 63 chains to a hickory on the Hickory Mountain thence North crossing Dry Creek 63 p. chains to a black oak saplin thence West 63 chains to the beginning relation being there unto had and also the reversion & reversions remainder and remainders rents and service thereof and also all the estate rights title content claims or demands whatsoever the said Samuel Temples for and to the said premises of in and to every part and parcel thereof to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land and premises above mentioned with the appurtenances unto the said Henry Cook his heirs and assigns that the said Samuel Temples and his heirs shall and will warrant and forever defend the said premises above mentioned with all and singular the appurtenances unto the said Henry Cook his heirs and assigns against all and every person or persons whatsoever claiming the same premises or any part or parcel thereof and the said Samuel Temples for himself his heirs doth covenant and grant to and with the said Henry Cook his heirs and assigns that he the said Samuel Temples now is the true lawful and rite owner of and singular the said tract or parcel of land tenement tenements and premises above mentioned and to every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances and also that the said Samuel Temples now is rightful and lawful and lawfully seized in his own right to a good sure perfect absolute and indisputable estate of XXXXXXXXXXXX in fee simple of and in all and singular the same premises above mentioned with the appurtanances without any manner of condition limitation or other matter cause or thing whatsoever to alter charge change or determine the same also that he the said Samuel Temples now hath good right and lawful authority in his own rite to grant bargain sell and convey the said tract or parcel of land tenement hereditaments and premises above mentioned with the appurtenances unto the said Henry Cook his heirs and assigns forever according to the true intent and meaning of these presents and to none other intent or purpose whatsoever in witness whereof the said Samuel Temples hath to these presents set his hand and seal the day and year above mentioned Signed sealed and delivered In the presence of Samuel Temples (his mark resembles a capital T with a bottom cross) John Cook Jr. Benjamin (his mark T) Temples Chatham County May Court 1774 Then this deed was in open court duly proved by the oath of John Cook Jun.
