Deed of Gift  - Edmond Branch - 1798

     Know all men by these that I Edmond Branch of the County of Chatham
     and State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the natural
     live and affection which I do bear unto my Grand Daughter Lucy
     Minor - Daughter of Joseph Minor and Mary, my daughter __ (his
     wife) I do by these presents give and grant unto my said Grand
     daughter __ Lucy Minor __ a negro girl named Chiney about the age
     of six years old, which said Negro Chiney is to be delivered unto
     the said Lucy after the decease of me or my present wife which may
     last happen or pay to the said Lucy two hundred Hard Dollars at
     such period in lieu of said negro or in case the said Lucy dies
     before she is intitled to the possession  of the negro girl
     aforesaid In that case as hereby give and grant the said girl
     Chiney for the consideration aforesaid unto my grand daughter Polly
     Minor _ daughter of Joseph Minor aforesaid. In witness whereof I
     have hereunto set my hand and seal _ this 6th day of Aug'st. Anno

     I do hereby oblige myself my heirs Exectr's or
     Admn'rs to give any other obligation hereafter to secure the above
     gift
     on stamped paper __ when it can be procured if necessary
