Thomas Surnames: Thomas, Davis, Haithcox STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA Chatham County THIS DEED, Made this 23 day of November 1912 by J. C. Davis and E. A. Davis, his wife, of Wake County and State of North Carolina, of the first part, to J. S. Thomas of Chatham County and State of North Carolina, of the second part: WITNESSETH: That said parties of the first part, in consideration of Ten Dollars and other valuable considerations, to them paid by said party of the second part, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and convey to said party of the second part and their heirs and assigns, a certain tract or parcel of land in Chatham County, State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of J. C. Davis, and others, and bounded as follows, viz: Beginning at a stake and ash painters just on the East bank of Haw River, corner of Lot #1, running South 87 1/4*(degrees) East 47.40 chs, to a stake and painters corner of lot No. 1 in J. C. Davis line, thence due North 12.11 chrs. to a stake in F. M. Haithcox' line said Davis' corner, thence North 87 1/4* (degrees) West 47 Chs. to a sycamore on the bank of Haw river J. C. Davis corner, thence South 2* (degrees) West as said river 12.11 chrs to the beginning, containing fifty six and 63/100 acres. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the aforesaid tract or parcel of land, and all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging to the said J. S. Thomas party of the second part and his heirs and assigns forever. And the said parties of the first part, for themselves and their heirs, executors and administrators, covenants with said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, that they seized of said premises in fee and have right to convey in fee simple, that the same are free and clear from all incumbrances, and that they do hereby forever warrant and will defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whomsoever. C. Davis and E. A. Davis, his wife, personally appeared before me this day and acknowledged the due execution of the annexed Deed of Conveyance; and the said E. A. Davis being by me privately examined, separate and apart from her said husband touching her voluntary execution of the same, doth sate that she signed the same freely and voluntarily, without fear or compulsion of her said husband, or any other person, and that she doth still voluntarily assent thereto.
