Henry Kelly was a private in Captain Joseph Johnson's Company. He was stationed at Hillsborough, NC as a guard for the General Assembly the winter before Gates' defeat. Henry served in 1778 at Cross Creek (now Fayetteville), Moore's Bridge, and the 1780 Battle at Camden, SC. He was at the Battle of Guilford (NC) where his brother-in-law, George Barbee, was killed. Henry died 28 Dec. 1794. Nine months' Revolutionary War service was proven. Mary's sister, Elizabeth, stayed with Mary while Henry was in service. Elizabeth reported that Mary and Henry Kelly were married at Mary's father's home a "considerable time before the Revolutionary War broke out." According to his daughter, Delpha, Henry Kelly was out in the Army when Mary was "on the lookout" for the birth of her fifth child. Henry's term expired, and he returned home shortly before the birth. Delpha Kelly Williams reported 4 May 1842 that she was the second child of Mary and Henry Kelly. She had a brother one year and eleven months older than herself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright.
