BEALE, SOUTH NORFOLK ENGINEER The Virginian Pilot Monday February 20, 1956 Robert L. Beale, Sr., 83, died suddenly in his home at 1234 Chesapeake Avenue, South Norfolk, at 7 o'clock Sunday night. A native of Chatham County, North Carolina, he had lived in South Norfolk 54 years. He was the son of the late Atlas and Mary Anne Barbour Beale. His wife is Mrs. Frances Pierce Beale. Mr. Beale is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. James A. Wagner, of Norfolk, and Miss Mabel Frances Beale, of South Norfolk; one son, Robert L. Beale, Jr., of Chesapeake Beach, and two grandchildren, Miss Cynthia Wagner, of Norfolk, and James A. Wagner, Jr., of Richmond. Mr. Beale was a charter member of the Cumnlock Christian Church in North Carolina. He was a charter member of the south Norfolk Lodge A.F. and A.M. No. 339. He also was a member of the Oakdale Lodge, I.O.O.F. No. 70, of South Norfolk. A graduate of the Scranton School of Engineering, he was first electrical engineer of the Berkley Street Railway and Company. He was electrical engineer for the Citizen's Bank 12 years. For 40 years he was chief engineer for the F.S. Royster Investment Corporation until his retirement three and a half years ago. The body was taken to the Francis A. Gay Funeral Home in South Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park.
