Will of William Clark, Chatham County, NC THE WILL OF WILLIAM CLARK, CHATHAM CO., NC State Dept. of Archives and History Search Room, Raleigh, N.C. Vol CR 22019, 1790- 1799. page 29. Transcribed by Carolyn Burgess Knott In the name of God Amen, I William Clark of the County of Chatham and the State of North Carolina, being weak in body but of sound Memory and understanding and considerin the uncertainty of this life and the certainty of Death do hereby make this my last will and testament in manner and form following hereby revoking and annulling all others by me heretofore made Viz Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my Eldest Daughter Ann Stedman a tract or parcell of land lying in the County of Chatham on the Waters of Rocky River adjoining the lands of Solomon Perrett containing by estimation three hundred and sixty acres,be the same more or less to have and to hold the said land and tenements unto the said Ann Stedman and the heirs of her body begotten by her present husband Nathan Stedman in fee simple forever I also give and bequeath unto the Ann Stedman and the heirs of her body begotten by Said Nathan one negroe fellow named Ben to have and to hold said fellow unto the said Ann Stedman the heirs by said Nathan forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Clark a plantation whereon I now live together with all the improvements thereon the same containing by estimation three hundred and fifty acres more or less to have and hold the said land and premises unto the said Henry this lawful heirs forever but on failure thereof at the death of said Henry to be sold and the purchase money thereof be equally divided between my surviving children also I give and bequeath unto said Henry Clark one negro fellow named Adam to have and hold the said negro fellow gela the said Henry and his Heirs forever but in case said Henry should die without legitimate issue said negro to be sold and divided between my surviving children Equally. Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved Wife Frances Clark one negroe fellow called Mossey to have and to hold the said negroe fellow Mossy, unto the wife Frances Clark, her Heirs, Executors, administrators and assigns forever, Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Clark; a track or parcell of land in the County of Chatham and State of North Carolina containing by estimation five hundred acres joining the land whereon I now live and the Hill call'd Round top the same being known by the name of Rocky Ridge also I give and bequeath unto the said Mary Clark, one negroe girl called Jenny and to have and to hold the said land and negroe unto the said Mary & her Heirs forever, but in case Mary shoul'd die without lawfull Heirs on her body begotten said land and negroes to be sold and the purchase money equally divided between my surviving children, Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Fanny Ann Clark, a track or parcell of land in the County of Chatham adjoining Ashpond old place and land whereon Wm. Claigg now lives containing six hundred and forty acres also one negroe Wench called Eve to have and hold the said land and negroe unto the said Fanny Ann Clark and her lawfull Heirs forever but on failure thereof at death of said Fanny Ann Clark to be sold and divided equally between my surviving children. Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Winny Clark the sum of forty shilling to be paid out of the Estate of my other children in equal portions whenever said Winny shall attain the age of seventeen- Item the Residue of my property Real and Personal I request may be applied to the discharge of just debts and if any remain to be sold and equally divided between my wife Francis Clark & my four children Ann Stedman Henry Clark Mary Clark & Fanny Ann Clark-- and I do by there presents ordain and appoint my beloved wife Francis Clark and my trusty friends Nathan Stedman George Lucas and Roger Griffith the Executors of this my last will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto affixed my hand and seal this 24 day of Jun in the year of our Lord 1795..
