(266, 267) In the name of God amen. I Seth Cotton, of Chatham County and State of North Carolina being in a very low state of health but of perfect mind and memory, blessed be God do make and ordain this my last will and testament as follows, (to wit) First, I lend unto my loving wife Rebekah her life nine negroes by the names of Siler, Juda, Jenny, Cresy, Orange, Edward, Dilsy, Silffe and Lucy, they and their increase, also I lend unto my wife all the household and kitchen furniture except one bed and furniture which I do give and bequeathe unto my son Avent Cotton. I lend unto my wife her life and all my stock of every kind and all the plantation tools of every kind. Item: I give unto my four daughters, Betsy, Sally, Rebekah and Polly after the death of my wife twenty five dollars to each of them, to be raised out of my estate and after the death of my wife. I do give and bequeath unto my children namely William, Gabriel, Richard, Avent, Betsey, Sally, Rebekah and Polly, nine negroes that is to say, Ceales, Judas, Jenny, Crisey, Orange, Dilsey, Edmond, Silffe and Lucy, they and their increase to be equally divided, also all my estate that shall remain after the legacies given. This I do make my last will and testement making all other wills of no effect and do by these presents make void. All former wills Given under my hand and seal the 13th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen. I do make and ordain Parish Cross and William Cotton my executors to this my last will and testament.
