In the name of God Amen: I Matthew Caveness of Chatham County and State of North Carolina being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Jane Caveness one tract of land whereon I now live containing one hundred and fifty acres to have and to hold duering her life or widowhood - then to be equally divided between my two youngest sons Henry Caveness and Benjamin Caveness; also I give and bequeath to my wife one black horse and two cows, one bed and furniture, one sow and pigs, seven or eight soats. I also give and bequeath to my eldest son Thomas Caveness the sum of fifty cents. I also give to my eldest daughter Lucy Caveness one Heifer and bed and reasonable furniture. I also give to my daughter Patsy Caveness one heifer with a white back and one bed and reasonable furniture. I also give and bequeath to my son Henry one young mare of a roan colour. I also give to my youngest son Benjamin Caveness one sorral colt. I also give to my three youngest daughters viz - Polly Caveness, Anna Caveness & Sally Caveness the sum of twenty dollars each. I also give to my wife Jane Caveness all of my stock of sheep with the household and kitchen furniture, also one plow and two pair gears. It is my will that the remainder of my property shall be sold and the above named youngest daughters to be raised and put to interest for their use as they come of age also the sum of sixteen dollars of the remainder to be let at interest for the use of my youngest son Benjamin Caveness when he comes of age also one saddle to each of my sons Henry Caveness and Benjamin Caveness and last of all I appoint Stephen Scott and Benjamin Caveness executors of this my last will and testament and hereby revoke all former Wills by me made in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 26th day of November in the year of our Lord 1827.
