CHATHAM, NC WILL - DICKENS, THOMAS -1852 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by : Ruth Hinkle Kicklighter State of North Carolina Chatham County I Thomas Dickens of the county and state above named being of sound mind and perfect recollection but knowing the uncertainty of my earthly existence do acknowledge this to be my Last Will and Testement Item 1st That is say that I give unto my beloved daughter Manessa Fuquay thirty acers of my land where I now live taking my house and the west end of said tract and after paying off all of my just debts leave all the balance of my land all other property to be divided among all my children. I also leave my son Nehemiah Dickens to be Executor to this my Last Will and Testement In testimony where of I the said Thomas Dickens do turn unto and set my hand and afix my seal this 18th day of February 1852. Signed and acted in presence of his A M Yarbrough Justice Thomas X Dickens Green Womack mark State of North Carolina Chatham County Be it know that before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the County of Chatham personally appeared Nehemiah Dickens and made oath that he is the Executor of Thomas Dickens deceased who was a pensioner of the United States and to whom a pension certificate was issued which is here with surrendered; that he resided in the County of Chatham of the State of North Carolina for the space of fifty years and previous thereto he resided in the County of Halifax in the same State. Witness my hand and seal this 23 day of December 1853 A M Yarbrough, Justice of the Peace Nehemiah Dickens J H Ragland Witness Executor of Thomas Dickens B R Avent Witness State of North Carolina Chatham County Know all men by these present that I Nehemiah Dickens Executor of Thomas Dickens deceased in the County of Chatham in the State of North Carolina a Revolutionary Pensioner of the United States do hereby constitute give appoint William Heskle of Fayetteville in the County of Cumberland and State of North Carolina my true and lawful attorney for ------ and in my name to -------from the agent of the United States for paying Pensions in Fayetteville the balance of Pension due to the said Thomas Dickens deceased from the 4th day of March 1852 to 23 rd day of May 1852 Witness my hand and Seal this 23rd day of December 1853 Sealed in presence of Wittnesses Nehemiah Dickens Witness J H Ragland Executor of Thomas Dickens Witness B R Avent State of North Carolina Chatham County I W. P Taylor Clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Session Holding at Pittsboro do hereby certify that satisfactory evidence was made to said court that Thomas Dickens a Pensioner of the United States at the sum of --------ten dollars for annum and that he died on the 23 day of May 1852 in the County of Chathum and State of North Carolina and that the said Thomas Dickens deceased left no other but the following children viz Nehemiah Dickens Merritt Dickens Uriah Dickens Richard Dickens Joseph Dickens Manessa Dickens Gillium Dickens and Louis Dickens and that they are the only heirs living.
