In the name of God, Amen.  I, Thomas Dowdy, Sen'r. being in perfect senses and
memory, I constitute this my last (repeats my last)  will and testament in the
following manner, to wit.  In the first place, I give and bequeath my soul
into the hands of the Almighty God who gave it, and my body to be buried in a
Christian & decent manner.  I then dispose of my property in the following
manner. I give unto my daughter Nelly Goodman, one dollar, I also, give unto
my daughter Lucy Dowdy, one dollar. Item, I give unto my daughter Sarah Dowdy,
one dollar.  Item, I give unto my son John Dowdy, one dollar.  Item, I give
unto my son William Dowdy, one dollar.  Item, I give unto my son Thomas Dowdy,
one dollar.  Item, I give unto my son James Dowdy, one dollar.  Item, I give
unto my son Armstead Dowdy, one dollar.  Item, I give unto my son Joab Dowdy,
one dollar, one mare, bed and furniture.  Item, I give unto my son Benjamin
Dowdy, one horse, bed and furniture.  Item, I give unto my son Balaam Dowdy,
one dollar.  Item, I give unto my daughter Rebecca Dowdy, one mare, bed and
furniture.  All the rest of my property, consisting of land and tenements, and
all my household and kitchen furniture, I give unto my beloved wife Rebecca
Dowdy, (during ?) her lifetime, and after her death, it is my desire that it
should all be equally divided amongst the following persons, Thomas Dowdy,
James Dowdy, Armstead Dowdy, Balaam Dowdy, Joab Dowdy, Benjamin Dowdy, and
Rebecca Dowdy.  The above I constitute my last will and testament, this 27th
of January in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred &
five.
