I, John Headen, of Chatham County and state of North Carolina being of sound and perfect mind and memory do, this 22th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four, make and publish this, my last will and testament in manner following that is to say--Item that all of my debts and funeral charges may be punctually and specially paid by my executors whome I shall hereafter appoint--Item that my most ungreatful wife Phebe Headen may have one third part of the land I way have rights to at the time of my decease. During her natural life & ten pounds in money....as to bed and such other things as widows are customed to have she took with her when she eloped from me and the negro wench she bought I had fourteen year in my possession--Item to the child she brought which she says Brantley Jones is the father of for sertain I no it is none of mine, though I dont no what she named it though I have heard Thomas....Item five pounds, if it shoud (or "its shouts") ever make a man mean enough to call for it. Item--I give and bequeath all the reminder of my estate both rail and personal to be equally divided in three shears that is to say to my brother William Headen and my two sisters Susanah Dark, widow of William Dark decd. & Sarah wife of John Harris. Item--also the dower land at my wifes decease. My brother and sisters above mentioned in the maner as the rest of my estate and I hereby make and ordain my above minsioned brother William Headen....John Harris & Josiah Dark my lawful executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said John Headen have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal the day and year above writen /s/ John Headen Wit: Micajah McGee, Josiah Martin I revoke every instrument of this kind if any should offer for I never had any.
