NC, Wills 1798-1819, Vol. A -pg. 91 NCSA film # 022.80001 (Note: there are two versions of this will, I believe this version to be the original) Evidently the other one is a transcription by a clerk at some time. I can see, there are slight differences (one has the full name of the witness Nathaniel Huspeth (Hudspeth) One has what is obviously, his original mark (the M is very scratchy and wiggly) It also has some typos where the clerk left out the full name of the cow "white face heifer" and put, "the face heifer". Joseph Morgan Will In the name of God Amen, I Joseph Morgan of the county of chatham and State of North Carolina being of sound and perfect mind and memory (blessed be God) do this third day of December in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and five make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to Say, First, I give and bequeath unto my son John Morgan one cow known by the name of the Kirksey Cow. It is also my desire that he (the said John) should have peaceable possession of that part of the land whereon he lives, as far as the dividing fence between him and me, provided he neither rents it out, or hires any person to cut it down or injure it in any manner whatever, during the natural life or widowhood of my beloved wife. Item. I give unto my daughter Rachel Richardson one cow called Pied, also should be mare bring a colt the ensuing Spring or Summer it is my desire that she (Rachel) should have it as soon as it can be taken from the Mare. Item. I give unto my daughter Polly Brewer & My son in Law Abel Brewer one Cow known by the name of the White face Heifer also I desire that they should have peaceable possession of the field below the Peach orchard as far as the dividing fence between that and the Apple orchard or any part between said field and George Dismukes' line (provided they neither rents said Land or hire any person or person to live thereon) until the death or marriage fo my present Wife. Item. I give unto my Daughter Jamimah Morgan one bed sted, bed and furniture, two Cows and Calves a pewter Dish & Bason, & half a dozen pewter plates to be delivered her whenever she marries or arrives at a mature age, by my Executors that may be hereafter named. It is my desire that my Executors should dispose of such property as they may think proper, to discharge all my Just debts in such manner as they deem most advantageous. Item. I leave to my beloved Wife Ferriby , all the land & tenements together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging, and all the other property real & perishable that I may die lawfully possessed of during her natural life or widowhood (after paying my just debts) except such as is above bequeathed, And at her death or marriage to be equally divided between all my children above named. And I hereby make and Ordain my worthy friend George Dismukes & my beloved Son John Morgan Executors and my beloved wife Ferriby Morgan Executrix of this my last will & testament.
