Recorded in Book D, page 93. Proved August 1862 State of North Carolina Chatham County I Rachel Pugh being of sound mind and disposing memory, do make, publish, and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following, to wit. Item. I desire my executor to provide for my body a decent burial and pay all my just debts together with my funeral expenses out of the money of my estate which shall first come into his hands. Item. I will and devise unto my beloved cousin, Isham Cox, the tract of land which was willed to my by my father, Thomas Pugh, it being the north part of the plantation on which said Thomas Pugh lived, divided by and set apart to me by an east and west line between me and Abner Lamb, to have and to hold the same to the said Isham Cox, his heirs, and assigns in fee simple forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my said cousin, Isham Cox, all the personal property which I took to his house when I first went to live with him, with the exception of one half my beds and bedclothes, and also one hundred and fifty dollars ($150) in money, together and in addition to the amount which I contributed in building the house which I now live, to have and to hold the above named property and money to the said Isham Cox and his heirs and assigns forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my beloved sister Lydia Mendenhall (wife of Mordicai Mendenhall) the remaining half of my bed and bed clothes. Item. I give and bequeath unto the said Lydia Mendenhall's daughter, Naomi, and son, Milton M., twenty-five dollars each, and also to my nieces, Rebecca Lamb, Rachel Lamb, Naomi Lamb, and Mary Lamb, twenty-five dollars each in money. Provided there is so much on hand after my decease beside what I have herein otherwise disposed of. Should there not be so much, I desire that what there is, be divided equally between my nephew & nieces above named. Item. Lastly I nominate, constitute, and appoint Isham Cox executor of this my last will and testament.
