CHATHAM COUNTY, NC - WILLS - Luke Welch, 24 May 1769 ----¤¤¤¤---- Recorded in Book A, Chatham County, North Carolina, 1772. In the name of God, I, Luke Welch, being weak in body, but of sound memory, blessed be his holy name, do this Twenty-fourth Day of May, in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Nine, make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner following. That is to say, first I recommend my soul to Almighty God, that gave me breath. Second, as to my worldly affairs, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Jane, during her natural life, the Plantation I now live on, containing two hundred and thirty acres, situated and lieing on Ephraims Creek, near Tick Creek, in the County of Orange, and Province of North Carolina, with the house of all the cattel and creature that belongs to me, with the house of all the horses, and all the stocks and other materials whatsoever, on the Plantation, (--indecipherable --) she making no waste of the same, and on her decease, my son John, is to take possession of the said Plantation with all and every thing above mentioned, allowing his sister Ann, sixty acres, out of the said Plantation with and half of the stocks, the said sixty acres is to be woodland, joining Walter Welch's Plantation and I further more bequeath to my wife Jane, the sum of five pounds, which is owing to me by Walter Welch. I make and ordain her, my said wife, sole executrix of this, my will, in trust for the intent and purpose, in this my will contained and I make my loving friends, Solloman Cox and Francis Dorset, overseer of this my last will, to take care and see the same performed according to my true intent and meaning. In Witness whereof, I the said Luke Welch, have to this my last will and testament, set my hand and soul, the day and year above written.
