Chatham Co, NC, Record of Estates, Vol. 2, pg. 78 NC State Archives film # C.022.50002, 1782-1799 In the Name of God Amen, I John Wilkins of Chatham County in State of North Carolina being weak in body of perfect mind & memory thanks be given unto god. Calling unto mind the mortality of my Body and Knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die due make an ordain the my last Will & Testament that is to say principally and first of all, I give and recomend my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it and Body I recommend to the earth to be Buried in decent Christian Burial at the discrestion of my execut'r nothing but at the general Resurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God and as Touching such worldly estates where with it has pleas'd god to bless me In this life I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner - First I give and bequeath to Betty my dear Belov'd wife a Negro Nam'd Davy during her life or widdowhood. at the expiration of either the sd Negro Davey to be divided amongst my three sons John, William, & James and my Dauter Sarah equally - Item I give and demise all my Lands I am now possess'd of to be equally divided amongst my three sons (viz John, William, & James to be divided in manner & form as the law has directed in cases of Intestate Estate- Item I give to my Belov'd Dauter Jane Powel a Negro Boy nam'd Walden also the Negro Girl Mille which is now in her possession to her and her heirs forever- Item I give to my son John Wilkins a Negro Boy Nam'd Sam to him and his heirs for ever- Item I will and desire that the Negroes (Viz) Anna, Hannah, Jude, Hester Ann the younger and Mille the dauter of Hannah, Remain in the possession of my beloved wife until she marrys or my son James comes to the age of twenty one years at the period of either death marriage. My son James coming to the age afore sd. the aforesaid. Anna, Hannah Jude Hester Anna the younger and Mille, the dauter of Hannah an there increase (if any) to be equally divided, amongst my three sons John Wlkins, William Wilkins & James Wilkins and my dauter Sarah Wilkins or there survivors and to there Heirs forever- Likewise I will & desire that my son John Wilkins, afores'd be furnished out of my personal property with a Feather Bed & furniture and two cows & calves- Also I will & desire that my son William Wilkins, as afores'd be given a Horse now call'd his, likewise a Bed & furniture & two cows & calves to be made out of my personal property- Item I will and desire that my son James Wilkins at his coming of age be furnished with Horse of the value of sixteen pounds likewise a feather Bed & furniture & two cows & calves to be paid out of my personal property- Item I will and desire that my dauter Sarah Wilkins at her coming of age or marrying be furnished with a Horse Saddle of twenty pounds value to be made out of personal property likewise a Feather Bed & furniture & two cows & calves- Item I give and bequeath to my Love Betty all the rest of my Personal Property after paying of my Just debts and the legacies heretofore Bequeath'd to dispose of at her own discrestion, Whereas I likewise constitute & appoint Executrix with John Record executor of this my last Will & Testament and do hereby disalow revoak and disanul all and every other former testament, Wills, legacies bequeath, and executors by me in any wise before named, Wills and bequeath'd Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will & Testament, In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 26th day of Feb'y in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred ninety six.
