There is thought by all the physicians that there is no danger of his recovery finally. He is more patient than I could have had any idea it was possible he could be. He cries none and has every confidence in me and does everything I tell him without a murmer. He is fond of the doctors. He is much of a gentleman. Be reconciled and rest assured John will not be neglected. Every person appears to feel an interest in his welfare. I cannot tell when I can leave here but I will as soon as the doctor thinks I can do it with perfect safety and not before, as I am determined on not hazarding his life if I have to stay here no matter how (long). But in about a week I reckon I can start or probably sooner, it depends on how the place in John’s neck heals up. Nothing shall call my attention from him. I never let him out of my lap, only when he is in the craddle. I have slept none since it took place and don’t feel like I ever could and let John be uneasy. You know me and that’s enough. Don’t be uneasy. The post rider is waiting and will let Brother Thomas know how all things are ( ). I am yours as usual, with affection Wm Welch Mrs. Polly Welch Stoach Old fields Marion Cty North Carolina File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/cherokee/history/letters/letter17gms.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ncfiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
