Cherokee Calvary, Cherokee Infantry
The Weekly Standard of Raleigh, N. C. July 3, 1861

CAPTAIN GEORGE W. HAYS has raised a fine company of Calvary in Cherokee and 
CAPTAIN FRANCIS, a company of Infantry. Jackson, Macon, and Cherokee have sent 
1,000 men in defense of the South.
