C. Oct. 5, 1859 October 5, 1859 The Standard of Raleigh, N. C. Oct. 5, 1859 The Fall Courts --Cherokee Superior Court was in session last week, his Honor JUDGE BAILEY presiding. The docket was very large, but not a great many cases tried. The Indian, who was arraigned for the murder of another Indian, was tried, convicted of manslaughter, branded, and sent forth with Cain's mark upon him. Just at close of the week, JACOB WILLIAMS and N. B. HOWELL engaged in a street fight, when ALEXANDER, a son of HOWELL, ran up, drew a pistol, and shot WILLIAMS, the ball exiting the right breast and lodging within the body. Young Howell escaped and has not yet been arrested. Some apprehensions are entertained of WILLIAMS' recovery. The Superior Court is in session here at this time. JUDGE BAILEY dispatches businss with his usual urbanity and acceptability. We notice in attentance MR. SOLICITOR ERWIN, COL. GAITHER, COL. HOKE, COL. DAVIDSON, GEN. HENRY, MESSRS. SHIPP, J. W. WOODFIN, COLEMAN, BRYSON, ROBERTS, HYMAN and others. Some important suits are for trial this week, but we will notice their result at a future time. -- Franklin Observer File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/cherokee/newspapers/thefallc76nw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ncfiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
