Mrs. Cunningham had not been seriously ill and her death came as a surprise to the community and a host of friends and relatives throughout Cobb county and North Georgia. Friday, September 19th, was the 77th birthday for Mrs. Cunningham and she had observed this occasion very quietly at her home, having had a few friends and relatives with her for the day. In the latter part of the day she walked a few paces away from the home and was stricken with apoplexy. Mrs Cunningham is survived by her husband, Mr. A.H. Cunningham, four sisters, Mrs. Eliza Manley, Mrs. Cordelia Spivey, Mrs. Marinda Hampton, Spring Place, Ga., Mrs. Lillie McMartin, Dalton, Ga., four brothers, Mr. J.R. Robinson, Center, Ala., Mr. J.L. Robinson, Mr. R.L. Robinson, Spring Place, Ga., Mr. Hannibal Robinson, Sandy Gap, Texas, two daughters, Misse[s] Helen and Maggie Cunningham, and two sons, Mr. R.A. Cunningham, Marietta, and Mrs. J.F. Cunningham, Murphy, N.C. The funeral services were held at Mt. Calvary church, Sunday Sept. 21st at eleven o’clock A.M. conducted by Rev. Hampton of the Maple ave., Methodist church. Interment was in Shiloh with John S. Dobbins & Sons in charge. Note date correction in second edition: The Marietta Journal, Thursday, September 25, 1924 [Second Edition] Mrs. Martha Cunningham On Thursday evening, September 18, 1924, our community was saddened by the death of Mrs. Martha Cunningham, who passed away on her seventy-seventh birthday. She had been in feeble health for several years but her death came as a shock for it was unexpected. Mrs. Cunningham had been a faithful member of the Methodist church since early womanhood. The funeral services were held here Sunday at eleven o’clock by the Rev. Hampton, of Marietta, and the interment was in Shiloh cemetery with John S. Dobbins & Sons in charge of arrangements. Mrs Cunningham is survived by her husband, four children, Joe Cunningham, of Murphey, N.C., Robert Cunningham, of Marietta, Mrs Helen Cunningham and Miss Maggie Cunningham of this place a number of grand-children and one great grandchild.
