This file was contributed by: Dixie Briggs Feb 2000 ========================================================================== Chowan County Tavern Bonds, Thomas Luten XEROGRAPHIC COPY BY NC STATE ARCHIVES Jan 9, 1987 NORTH CAROLINA Chowan County Know all Men, by thefe Prefents, that one Thomas Luten Esq., William Benbury, and John Thack are held and firmly bound unto our Soverign Lord the King, in the full and just Sum of thirty Pounds, Proclamations money, to be paid to our Soverign Lord, the King; his Heirs and Sucefsors, for the ufe of this Province: to the which Payment, well and truly to be made, we bind our Selves and every of us; our and every of our Heirs, Executors & Adminiftrators, jointly and severally, firmly, by thefe Prefents. Sealed without Seal, and dated the 25th Day of July, 1750. The Condition of this Obligation is such, that whereas Thomas Luten Esq. Hath this Day obtained a Licence to keep Ordinary at his Houfe in this County if therefore the said Thomas Luten Esq. Doth conftantly find and province in his said Ordinary, good wholfome Lodging and Diet for Travellers; & Stable Fodder and Corn; or Pafturage and Corn, as the Seafon shall require, for their Horfes; for and during the Term of one year from the Day of the Date of thefe Prefent and shall not suffer or permit any unlawful Gaming in his House; nor, on the Sabbath day suffer any Perfon to tipple or drink more than is necefary; then this obligation to be null and void; or ---to be and remain in full force.
