Chowan County, NC - Land & Deed Records Posted with permission from the Pipkin Association July 1964 Newsletter This John Pipkin was the son of John Pipkin, Chowan County. This part of Chowan later became Gates County. John, Jr being of Johnston County, mentioned in this indenture, lived in present day Wayne County, Grantham township. Deed Book G, pages 65-67, Chowan County John Pipkin Sells Part of his 1719/20 Land Grant This indenture made this twenty ninth day of January in the year of our Lord Christ, one thousand seven hundred and fifty three, between John Pipkin of the county of Johnston, planter of the one part and John Lewis of the county of Chowan of the other part. Witnessed that the said John Pipkin for and in consideration of the sum of fifteen pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid before the enrolling and delivery hereof the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and ___ and he therefrom doth for ever dequit and discharge, the said John Lewis hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened ___ and confirmed and by these presents doth fully freely and absolutely grant, bargain, sell, alein, ___ and confirm and he the said John Lewis a certain tract or parcel of land; situated, lying and being in Chowan County on the south side of Mills Swamp, beginning at a white oak standing in a branch, a corner tree at ___ path, so running along said branch to a corner tree of Robert Rogers so running by a line of marked trees to another corner tree of Robert Rogers so lying by a line of marked trees a corner pine, corner tree thence running by a line between John Hines (or Hares) and thence running line between Edw Hares thence and to a corner tree a pine so runnning along J.T. Sprites line so running along Edw Hares line to corner tree a pine and thence running along Hares line to Mills Swamp to a corner tree & turning down the said Swamp to william Scotts line containing by estimation five hundred and forty acres of land ___ the same more or less together with all and singular the house and ___ farm buildings, gardens, orchards, fences, improvements...and the said John Pipkin for him, his heirs, Exr, Admr doth covenant, grant and agree with the said John Lewis his heirs and assigns in manner following, that is to say that for the said John Pipkin ___ granted lands & promises and unto the said John Lewis, his and assigns against the lawful claim or demand of all manner of persons whatsoever claiming the same shall and will warrant and forever will by those presents defend and further that the said John Pipkin, his heirs, Exr, Admr either or any of them shall and will at anytime hereafter upon the reasonable request ___ and changes in the law of the said John Lewis his heirs and assigns make this and in due form or law executed all or any such futherances, other deeds conveyed in the law for the furtherance ___ more ___ conveyances of the before granted land and possessions by their or either of them, their or either of their councels learned in the law shall be reasonably required advised or devised. In witness whereof the said John Pipkin hath hereunto set his hand and fixed his seal this day and year above written.
