You are to forthwith to measure etc. and lay out unto Cap'n. Wm. Downing 640 
acres of Land etc. Observing etc Lords etc. Given etc.

His Excell'y John Ld. Carteret  Pal'n. etc. To all etc. Doe. give etc. unto 
Capt. Wm. Downing a tract of Land Cont:  640 acres lying in Chowan Precinct on 
ye E:'t Side of Welches Creeke beginning a Cypress in ye Creek swamp Co'l 
Moseley Corn'r tree then along his line 400 pole to a pine ye S 45 W 280 to a 
pine ye S 88 E 580 pole to a Cypress in Welches Creek swamp then down ye Creek 
to ye first Station being due E. 

To have & to hold etc. yielding & paying etc. Yearly etc. Free rent of one 
Shilling for every Fifty Acres etc. Provided etc. Given Etc. March ye 30 
1720.   Witness etc.
