You are forthwith to measure and layout unto Edm'd. Smithwick 640 Acres of 
Land observing etc. Given etc.

Surveyed by Virtue of the within ..... 640 Acres for Edmond Smithwick.

His Excelly John Ld. Carteret Palatin etc. To all etc. Doe hereby hive and 
granted unto Edward Smithwick a tract of Land containing Six hundred and forty 
Acres (called Turkey neck) lying on the South Side of Morrittock [Roanoke} 
River beginningat a White oak on the River Pucosan at the mouth of a Long 
Swamp htence up the Narrows courses of that Swamp to a Red Oak then N. 50:. 
E:. 44 pole to a White Oak then N. 18: W: 635 pole to a Sweet Gum on the 
Devils Gut thence to the first Station being due Etc. Given Etc. Ap'l. the 6th 
1722.
