Chowan County, NC - Abraham Hedgepeth Revolutionary War Pension, 1833 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ April 25, 1960 Miss Nonie Hedgepeth Ross Avenue Dallas, Texas Dear Madam: Reference is made to your request for information relative to Revolutionary War soldiers, Abraham and William Hedgepeth. The Revolutionary War records of this office fail to afford any information relative to a William Hedgepeth. The data which follow were taken from papers on file in the pension claim S.6989 based on the military service of Abraham Hedgepeth. Abraham Hedgepeth was born May 1, 1761 in Nansemond County, Virginia. The names of his parents are not shown. When an infant, he moved to Nash County, North Carolina. While a resident of Nash County, Abraham Hedgepeth enlisted in July, 1782, and served fourteen months as private with the North Carolina troops under Captains Edward Grady, Bacot and Peter McCates and Colonel Lytle. After the Revolution, Abraham Hedgepeth lived in Nash County, North Carolina, with the exception of about twelve months when he lived in Bertie County, North Carolina, about 1786 or 1787. He was allowed pension on his application executed May 15, 1833, at which time he was living in Nash County, North Carolina, and he was living there in 1835. The papers in this claim contain not data relative to the family of Abraham Hedgepeth. In order to obtin the date of last payment of pension of Abraham Hedgepeth, the name and address of the person to whom it was paid and possibly the date of death of this soldier, it is suggested that you address The Comptroller General, Records Division, General Accounting Office, Washington, DC, giving the following data: Abraham Hedgepeth, Certificate #29820, issued March 4, 1835, rate $48.66 per annum, commenced March 4, 1831, Act of June 7, 1832, North Carolina Agency.
