Aug. 18, 1808 Edenton Gazette August 18, 1808 Further returns of members of the Assembly chosen at the late Elections: Chowan-- THOMAS BROWNRIGG, Senate; BAKER HOSKINS and SAMUEL McGUIRE, Commons Town of Edenton -- WILLIAM A. LITTLEJOHN, ESQ. and DR. JAMES NORCOM were candidates. After a warmly contested election, upon counting out the ballots, a doubt arose as to which of the candidates were elected. At length, after a consultation of the Sheriff and Inspectors, the Sheriff declared in favor of MR. LITTLEJOHN. We understand that DR. NORCOM intends to contest the election. As we presume, therefore, it must be decided at Raleigh, we deem it improper to make any further statement or comments.
