The Bank Bills were exceedingly well executed. He had been lurking in town a day or two on pretense of purchasing Negroes, and had endeavored to exchange the above Bills at several stores, but being suspicioned, he made off, when he was pursued, taken and brought before the civil authority ... After an impartial and patient hearing, he was committed to gaol, from thence to be conveyed in a few days to the City of Raleigh. But owing to the insufficiency of the gaol, and the lenity observed toward prisoners here, he made his escape on Sunday evening. He is a stout young man, about 25 years old, dark complexioned, large white eyes, has a down guilty look, dark hair, and has on the back part of his head a bunch of grey hairs. He had on, when he broke gaol, a blue cloth coat, white chorded homespun pantaloons, with large buttons at the hips, boots, and a very large black hat, talks very hoarse and slow and appears to be very ignorant. The money which proved good was returned to him previous to committment.
