Nov. 9, 1831   Edenton Gazette November 9, 1831
  -- We learn with regret, that on Friday morning last, the cotton-gin of 
JOSIAH COFFIELD, ESQ., of Chowan County, was destroyed entirely by fire, with 
the cotton and other articles which were within.
     The accident occurred from a spark flying from a candle which a negro 
girl had, and was instantly communicated to the cotton, which caused almost an 
immdiate conflagration. The loss is said to be considerable.
