The Edenton Gazette   Jan. 6, 1822 January 6, 1822
   -- We are sorry to have to announce the loss of the Sloop, "Active," CAPT 
SUMMERS of this port (Edenton), belonging to COL. FREEMAN of Gates County. She 
was cast away on Chincoteagee Shoals on the night of 2nd November last. The 
wind, East blowing very heavy, with a tremendous rolling sea. The Captain and 
crew, with much difficulty providentially saved -- vessel and cargo entirely 
lost. We understand the "Active" was not insured.
